“As we express our gratitude we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”

We are thankful today that God has filled manufacturers with the ability, intelligence, and knowledge to do it well. The opening page of Blake Explores Manufacturing highlights our inspiration to perform as manufacturers every day. - Exodus 31:3-5

BUILD

In celebration of International STEM Day - we recognize the importance of all the pillars within it: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and its connection and importance within Manufacturing.

The Turkey Measure Challenge is this month’s Future Makers building activity is dedicated to developing the skill of measurement. Yes, we build in manufacturing but it’s more than that. Most often it starts with measurement. Here’s what you can expect your child to develop and learn from the building activity:

  • Measurement Concepts: Creating an understanding of spatial awareness in relation to real-life scenarios. Some ideas to ask your child- How much space do you need to cook the turkey? Can you guess how much the turkey weighs?

  • Vocabulary Development: Encourage and teach your children the words associated with measuring. They’ll develop an understanding for different terms used to measure objects such as: inches and centimeters. You can also expand upon this to include measurement ounces, pounds, volume and scale.

  • Social and Communication Skills: As you’re working with your child they are developing both social and communication skills. Discuss how they communicate what they discovered (verbal and written), good ways of asking questions and how working together can help accomplish the activity.

Visit our Parents + Educators page for more information on guiding your Future Maker through the activity.
