“Don’t let your boy’s schooling interfere with his education”
-Mark Twain
Our mission is to educate, inspire, and equip the next generation to win in manufacturing. We believe education in manufacturing extends well beyond the classroom. You will find out how through each of our pillars; Read, Build, & Experience, in this newsletter. We are honored to have your family onboard, let’s dive in!
READ
On the final page of Blake Explores Manufacturing we included a coloring page. As a children’s book it is important to engage the reader. As a children’s book about manufacturing it is even more important to inspire our readers to work with their hands. Has your Future Maker made an awesome coloring on this page? Share it with MAKE!
BUILD
The MAKE August activity is designed to show all Future Makers a project with multiple requirements; in building a tower with the strength to accomplish the challenge. We continue to follow our simple steps throughout each activity (1) Imagine and Plan (2) Create (3) Test (4) Improve. The purpose is to provide each child with enough structure to get started but the freedom to imagine and innovate their end product. This is not only a fun challenge, it also offers numerous development benefits:
Learning Basic Engineering Principles: Kids are introduced to basic engineering principles in a fun and accessible way - learning concepts like: balance, tension, and compression and the importance of a strong foundation. As your child experiments with different structures, they will begin to understand how these principles apply to re-world buildings and bridges. Be sure to ask questions and continue their learning and understanding for building.
Improving Fine Motor Skills: This challenge utilizes small material to construct a tower, and requires precise hand movements and coordination. It helps children develop fine motor skills as they carefully place and secure each piece together. The more they practice, the more their dexterity improves!
Boosting Confidence: Building the tower and overcoming the obstacles to accomplish the challenge will instill confidence and motivate your child to take on more challenges, both in and out of the classroom. In addition, the process of trial and error teaches them that failure is part of learning, helping them develop a growth mindset.
Visit our Parents + Educators page for more information on guiding your Future Maker through the activity.
